Information

Hip-hop is the most listened-to music in the world, yet many educators struggle to find ways to connect it to their students' education. In this hands-on workshop, we will use the new hip-hop Music Education Guidelines to introduce ways for you to use EmCeeing, Beat-Making, and Hip-Hop Culture with your students. Workshop participants will be introduced to these basics through hands-on songwriting techniques, culture-building activities, and an exploration of hip-hop artists and sounds. Music educators will develop a stronger understanding of hip-hop's influential role in music and learn strategies to implement in their classrooms. As a result of this session, participants will be able to identify strategies for cultural relevance in the classroom, acquire hip-hop writing and performance techniques, and enhance students' literacy skills. Presented by The NAMM Foundation in collaboration with Music Will.
